There is one obvious thing that stands out from Georgia’s 41-31 win over Mississippi State, the superstar performance from QB Carson Beck.

Beck had a career night against Mississippi State where he completed 36 of 48 passes for 459 yards and three touchdowns. Both his completed passes and passing yards were career highs for the star QB.

It’s a good thing that Beck and the Georgia offense delivered because the UGA defense struggled and gave up more points than anyone expected.

After such an impressive performance it’s no surprise to see that Beck’s Hesiman Trophy odds improved. Beck however now has the fifth best odds to hoist the trophy at the end of the season according to FanDuel.

Beck now has +1200 odds to win the Heisman Trophy, which is fifth best behind Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel, Miami QB Cam Ward and Alabama QB Jalen Milroe.

In all honesty, this award feels all but wrapped up by Jeanty who’s been an absolute star at Boise State this season. The Broncos are also on track to earn the one Group of Five College Football Playoff bid as well, which if that occurs this award will be his. But Beck is putting himself in position to win this award if Jeanty and Boise State falter.

What does Carson Beck have to do to win the Hesiman?

Other than Jeanty and Boise State slipping up, Beck does have to continue to play extremely well to win this award. He especially needs to play well when he and Georgia go up against the top teams on their schedule.

Texas, Ole Miss and Tennessee loom large on the Bulldogs’ schedule, and if Beck can have elite performances in wins against these teams then his odds will continue to climb. I also think UGA needs to win an SEC championship as well for Beck to have a good chance at winning the Heisman Trophy.

Now while it’s still unlikely he does win this award, Beck having the fifth best odds halfway through the season shows how great he’s been for UGA this year. Let’s hope this trend continues and we see Beck slowly catch up to Jeanty in these standings.
