Georgia QB commit Colton Nussmeier saves senior season by moving closer to Athens

After being ruled ineligible for his senior season of high school football in the state of Texas, Georgia quarterback commit Colton Nussmeier has found a way to play this fall. He reportedly will be moving to Louisiana, which conveniently is much closer to Athens, to play his final season of high school football for Archbishop Rummel.

Now instead of sitting on the sideline for the next year before beginning his career at Georgia, Nussmeier will have the opportunity to sharpen his craft and enjoy one more ride of high school football.

Georgia commit Colton Nussmeier will play high school football after eligibility battle

Back in mid-June Nussmeier was ruled ineligible for the upcoming high school football season. In the state of Texas students are not allowed to transfer for the sole purpose of athletics, and it was determined that was the only reason why he transferred schools. He appealed this decision, but the powers at be decided to uphold their decision a couple weeks later.

This left Nussmeier with two options. He could either stay put and skip his senior season of high school football or move to a new state where he could play. Some Georgia fans were hoping he’d move to the state of Georgia, but he ultimately chose Louisiana.

Now Nussmeier will be able to play his senior season and not only try to win a state championship but also prepare for his upcoming career in Athens.

Colton Nussmeier’s move will set him up for success at Georgia

Nussmeier moving so he can play his senior season was critical for his success at Georgia. If he skipped this season then he likely wouldn’t improve as much as others in the 2027 class, and that could hinder the start of his career in Athens.

Nussmeier could’ve continued to practice and train on his own all this year to get ready to move to Georgia in the spring, but that isn’t as good as actually playing on a team. Now he will get to practice with his peers every day and compete on the field which will help prepare him for his college career as best as possible.

Nussmeier will come to Georgia next year at the same time Gunner Stockton likely departs for the NFL. He will be thrust into a competition to become Georgia’s next starter which will be next to impossible for him to win, but anything is possible. His chances to be Georgia’s starter in 2027 are slim, but they’d probably be even worse if he didn’t play this fall.

Nussmeier thankfully won’t have to deal with that anymore. He will get to play football this fall and not have to worry about falling behind his peers in the 2027 class, and being that much closer to Athens isn’t a bad thing either.
