Kirby Smart has been desperately searching for a quarterback commit in the 2027 recruiting class. So far he fallen short at almost every turn, but that finally came to an end on Friday.

Georgia's final quarterback target was four-star Colton Nussmeier. He is the No. 142 overall recruit who recently named a top two that consisted of Georgia and Arkansas, but on Friday he officially committed to Georgia.

This commitment is huge for many reasons, but the best reason of all is that Nussmeier was supposed to visit Arkansas this weekend.

Colton Nussmeier's commitment to Georgia came at the perfect time

Nussmeier was scheduled to visit Arkansas beginning June 6. He then had a visit scheduled to Georgia next weekend with one final trip to UCLA the week after. Georgia received predictions to win his recruitment on Friday though, so the hope was that his trip to Arkansas wouldn't change their momentum.

It turns out though that Nussmeier didn't even need to make this visit because he knows that Georgia is the right school for him.

Nussmeier certainly will still take his visit to Athens next weekend, but he more than likely will not be visiting Arkansas this weekend or UCLA in two weeks.

What can Georgia expect now that Colton Nussmeier committed?

Before this commitment Georgia had the No. 23 recruiting class in the country, adding Nussmeier however moved them up a few spots to No. 20.

That still is not where Georgia wants to end up, but there is a good chance that more commitments could be coming soon.

It is a known fact that really good recruits want to play with other really good players. That however is especially the case when it comes to quarterbacks who are the leaders of their team. So when an elite quarterback chooses a school like Nussmeier just did with Georgia, the expectation is that more players will follow suit.

Georgia's 2027 recruiting class was already on the rise as they earned four commits at the start of this week. It's hard to expect that many commitments in such a short amount of time, but adding Nussmeier could help that continue throughout the rest of June.

Georgia is in the middle of another massive recruiting event this weekend. This news will surely send shock waves through campus, so it will be interesting to see if any visiting recruits follow his lead and commit as well.
