Not long ago Georgia was ranked outside of the top 30 in the 2027 recruiting class rankings. While it is hard to get too emotional about recruiting rankings at this point in the year, being ranked that low left Kirby Smart with a large mountain to climb to get Georgia back to where they belong.
Georgia won't get to where they want to be overnight, but they are well on their way as the past few days was a dominant stretch of recruiting that sent Georgia back into the top 25.
Two-day recruiting heater sent Georgia flying up the recruiting rankings
Kirby Smart hosted many of his top recruits on campus this past weekend. The hope was that he would be able to earn at least a couple commitments from these visiting players, and that is exactly what happened.
The fireworks began on Sunday when two players committed within 30 minutes of each other. It then got even better on Monday when two more players committed which was headlined by the No. 2 linebacker in the country Joakim Gouda who was the fourth 2027 recruit to commit to Georgia after last weekend.
Georgia's 2027 class is now ranked No. 22 in the country. That still isn't where anyone wants to be right now, but this massive improvement shows that it could just be a matter of time until they climb even higher.
How did Kirby Smart change the trajectory of Georgia's 2027 recruiting class?
The biggest reason why Georgia was struggling on the recruiting trail the last few months was because recruits were committing to other schools before they even visited Athens. Smart had a lot of these players scheduled to take future visits, but they were willing to commit to other schools before completing their trip to Georgia.
This forced Smart to change his perspective to get recruits visiting Georgia to commit before visiting elsewhere, and that is exactly what happened this weekend.
All four of these players who committed had more visits scheduled throughout the month of June. Even Gouda was supposed to visit Florida this weekend followed by a visit to Texas in two weeks, but Smart and his staff did so well during his visit that he cancelled both of those trips to lock in his commitment to Georgia.
Georgia has big recruiting weeknds throughout the rest of June, and if this weekend told fans anything it's that they should expect more firewords over the next few weeks. And if that happens don't be surprised to see Georgia climb back into the top 10 in the recruiting class rankings if not much higher.
