Georgia normally is a big draw to the top quarterbacks across the country, but that hasn't been the case this year. Kirby Smart has struggled to find any sort of momentum with quarterbacks in the 2027 recruiting class, and a big reason for that may be due to their commitment from five-star quarterback Jayden Wade in the 2028 class.

Word came out on Thursday though that Oklahoma State quarterback commit Carson White was expected to visit Georgia this weekend.

This obviously was a great reason for Georgia to be hopeful that they finally found a quarterback who is interested in them, but that interest didn't last for long. Just a few hours later, and just a couple of hours before his visit was supposed to begin, a new report surfaced stating that White will no longer visit Georgia this weekend.

3-star Carson White turned his back on Georgia before even giving them a chance

There are a few schools out there who are more than capable of beating Georgia for a recruit. Oklahoma State isn't one of those schools.

The Cowboys are nowhere near a program that can stand up next to Georgia, so when word came out that White was visiting Athens the expectation immediately became that Georgia would be able to flip him.

It's obviously not that simple in reality though. Just because he was going to visit Georgia doesn't automatically mean that he would flip, but there were a lot of reasons why fans were hopeful that it could happen.

One thing that no one saw coming though was White canceling his visit just a few hours before it was supposed to begin. How could a quarterback who is committed to a low level Power Four program not want to visit Georgia once Smart showed interest in them? Why would White schedule a visit only to turn his back on Georgia just hours later?

Oklahoma State might've paid him to not visit Georgia, which is an interesting new recruiting tactic that is becoming more common, but either way this is a "loss" that will really sting.

Kirby Smart needs to reevaluate how to handle quarterback recruiting at Georgia

Smart may just need to reevaluate how he wants to handle recruiting quarterbacks right now. It is clear that something is going on in the 2027 class because it is almost statistically impossible for this many quarterbacks to choose other schools over Georgia. As mentioned though that might have to do with Wade's commitment who is the No. 1 QB in the 2028 class, and if that is the case then Smart needs to change his tactics.

First of all, Georgia doesn't actually need a quarterback commit in the 2027 class. They have four backups to Gunner Stockton on the roster who all looked great during spring ball this year, so if they can keep all four in Athens next year then their quarterback room will already be plenty good enough.

Georgia also didn't sign a quarterback in the 2026 class after Jared Curtis flipped to Vanderbilt. They still got their hands on a quarterback from the 2026 class though as Bryson Beaver, who initially was with Oregon, entered the Transfer Portal and came to Georgia this spring. So even if they don't sign a 2027 quarterback one could fall in their lap just like Beaver did.

Georgia does have one more 2027 quarterback out there who is showing interest in them. Colton Nussmeier is a four-star who is still uncommitted and currently has Georgia in his top two. He would be a big win for the program, but they will have to defeat another SEC school for his commitment.

But it won't even matter if they lose that recruitment as long as Wade remains committed to Georgia. If Wade decommits then Georgia will have to find a quarterback in the 2027 class, but if Wade stays committed and signs with Georgia then it won't really matter what happens in the 2027 class.

Wade is entering a dangerous stretch in his recruitment as other visits are on the horizon, so Smart needs to go all in with Wade as he is the single most important recruit for Georgia right now.
