4-star QB's new recruiting update may not be as good for Georgia as it seems

Another recruitment is coming down to the wire that Georgia feels like they should win, but that is never a guarantee for Kirby Smart nowadays.

Georgia's struggles with finding a quarterback commit in the 2027 recruiting class seems to be the biggest storyline so far this year. Kirby Smart has thrown his hat into the ring for many elite players, but they continue to choose other schools over Georgia.

Smart now has his eyes set on yet another new target in four-star Colton Nussmeier. Rivals provided an update this weekend that right now it is Georgia and Arkansas battling at the top of his recruitment with UCLA looming in the background as well, but is this update even a good thing?

Normally this would be a very positive update for Georgia, but with how things have gone so far this year it's impossible to get excited even about this news.

Colton Nussmeier could be the answer Kirby Smart has been desperately searching for

Nussmeier is someone that Smart has been recruiting for a few months. He recently visited Georgia during G-Day which shows he is interested in the Bulldogs, and that was cemented with this new update from Rivals.

According 247Sports, he is the No 142 overall player in the country an the No. 10 QB in the 2027 recruiting class. It's easy to see how big winning this recruitment would be based on Nussmeier's ranking alone, but winning this battle goes far beyond just adding a really good quarterback.

If Georgia could add someone like Nussmeier then their entire recruiting class could really take off. Recruits love to play with other really good recruits and that is especially the case with quarterbacks, so adding Nussmeier could lead to other big commitments from other top recruits as well.

The only problem though is that Georgia's search for a quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class has not been typical this year, and even a battle against Arkansas is difficult to be confident about.

Georgia's search for a QB has been anything but normal this year

Last week Georgia was battling Virginia Tech for a top 100 quarerback in Peter Bourque. Virginia Tech and Arkansas are in similar positions as programs in that they are far below Georgia, but that didn't matter to Bourque who committed to the Hokies anyways.

Why did he do that? One reason might be due to Georgia's stacked QB room that will include Jayden Wade who is the No. 1 quarterback in the 2028 recruiting class.

If that was a reason Bourque picked Virginia Tech over Georgia then the same thing could happen with Nussmeier and Arkansas. If that does happen then Smart may have no choice but to change his strategy with the 2027 recruiting class.

After seeing Georgia's four backups excel during spring ball this offseason along with Wade coming in two years time, Smart doesn't need to add a quarterback in the 2027 class. If they somehow find out they do need to add someone after this season then they could always go searching in the Transfer Portal, but they don't need to panic and add someone in the 2027 class just to do it.

It will be interesting to see what Smart decides to do if Georgia loses this recruitment as well, but if that does happen there is no need to panic because the Bulldogs future at quarterback is still extremely strong.
