Saturday marked commitment day for the No. 1 quarterback in the country Elijah Haven. He is the No. 2 overall player in the country, and after a back-and-forth recruitment he was finally ready to commit.

The good news for Georgia is that they were one of his two finalists alongside Alabama. The bad news is that Haven chose the Tide over Georgia which forces Kirby Smart to face a dark realization.

5-star QB Elijah Haven turns his back on Georgia and commits to Alabama

About a month ago Haven announced the three finalists in his recruitment. Auburn at the time was still in the running along with Georgia and Alabama, but that quickly changed after one final visit to Athens.

After this trip to Georgia, Haven made the decision to cut Auburn from his recruitment. That left Georgia only having to battle Alabama, but it already felt too late to make a seirous run at winning this recruitment.

As of April 4 it has been Alabama running out in front in this recruitment as 247Spots logged multiple predictions in the Tide's favor. Those predictions never wavered even after this final trip to Georgia, so the writing has been on the wall for quite some time.

Kirby Smart now has to hit the drawing board as he is still looking for a quarterback commit in the 2027 class. That however isn't the worst part about losing this recruitment because Georgia will now likely have to beat Haven if they are going to win the SEC.

The good news for Georgia though is that they have the No. 1 quarterback in the 2028 class (Jayden Wade) already committed. That fact more than likely is why Haven chose Alabama, but Wade's commitment is why Georgia shouldn't worry too much about this loss.

But Alabama clearly isn't going anywhere, and even if they haven't won the SEC under Kalen DeBoer they are going to be a formidable force for the foreseeable future.
