Georgia's worst case scenario was very obvious last season. If Gunner Stockton were to go down with an injury Georgia's season would've been all but over. There was not a quarterback behind Stockton on the depth chart with any amount of experience, so having to play without Stockton would've been extremely difficult to overcome.
That same sentiment still exists today as no quarterback on the depth chart behind Stockton has any real experience. But backup Ryan Montgomery is putting those concerns to bed with a workout video that was posted on social media.

Ryan Montgomery proved to Kirby Smart that he has one less thing to worry about
Montgomery came to Georgia last year as one of the top quarterbacks in the 2025 recruiting class. He immediately made his presence known during the offseason as he showed glimpses of what he brings to UGA's offense. Stockton ended up winning the starting job and Ryan Puglisi was named his backup, but that experience last offseason was critical for Montgomery's development.
Even though he showed a lot of great things last offseason, the last thing anyone wanted was for him to be forced to play last season. Playing a true freshman quarterback in the SEC rarely goes well, so it was a huge relief that Stockton stayed healthy all season.
The obvious hope now is that Stockton will stay healthy this entire season as well, but if he and Puglisi get injured Montgomery looks ready to step in. And he won't be coming in just to be a game manager, he is ready to be a legit threat in the Bulldogs' offense.
Kirby Smart loves to ride with his guys he recruits out of high school, so that is why he didn't recruit a quarterback over him out of the Transfer Portal. Smart knows that he is ready to play if he needs to, so not having to worry about what happens if Stockton and Puglisi get hurt is a big relief.
