Georgia football may know that their starting quarterback will either be Gunner Stockton or Ryan Puglisi this season, but the development of their other quarterbacks further down the depth chart is just as important. And the next QB after Stockton and Puglisi is freshman Ryan Montgomery.

Montgomery is in an interesting spot this season because he knows he likely won’t see the field. But his development is just as important, especially coming off his injury suffered during his senior year of high school.

Montgomery is healthy again and participated in Georgia’s first scrimmage this weekend, and he reportedly stood out and impressed those in attendance.

"Third-team quarterback Ryan Montgomery opened some eyes with his ability to manage the team and make plays, albeit, it was not against the first-team defense," Mike Griffith shared via dawgnation.com. "But for Montgomery, who injured his knee at the start of his senior season in Findlay, Ohio, and missed UGA spring drills, it was a promising audition."

Ryan Montgomery shows he is fully recovered from serious injury

Montgomery unfortunately suffered a serious injury at the start of his senior season last year. That injury kept him off the field for the entire year and caused him to miss spring practice at Georgia this year as well.

So Georgia’s scrimmage this past weekend was the first real chance anyone has been able to see Montgomery play over the last year, and he showed that his injury no longer is impacting him.

Who knows what the future holds for Montgomery at Georgia, especially with five-star Jared Curtis heading to Athens next season, but for now it is nice to see that Montgomery is healthy again and able to work on his development all season long. And at the very worst, it sounds like he would be able to step in as Georgia’s third quarterback if needed.
