Georgia football's biggest breakout star this season came from their running back room as Chauncey Bowens came out of nowhere to have a big year. Unfortunately a lot of his success came early in the season before the injury bug caught up to him.
Bowens suffered an injury during Georgia's win over Texas a few weeks ago, and that injury kept him sidelined against Charlotte and Georgia Tech. He was however healthy enough to play against Alabama in the SEC Championship game, but Kirby Smart detailed yet another injury he suffered during this game.
"Yeah, he landed on his back on that run he broke out on. And he was not, he was fine after the game,ā Smart said via 247sports.com. āIām not sure exactly what it was, but he landed on his back and he was in a great deal of pain and happened a couple other games in the season when he fell there and landed on it, but he seems to be fine."
Chauncey Bowens injury update: Star RB suffered another injury vs Alabama
Bowens carried the ball just four times against Alabama for 23 yards. He did however have a big run for 19 yards during this game, but it was at the end of that run when he landed awkwardly on his back.
Smart mentioned that this injury was minor which means it likely won't keep him out of their upcoming playoff run, but it would have been nice to see him get more carries after missing the previous two games. Unfortunately that did not happen, but thankfully Nate Frazier picked up the slack and helped carry Georgia to victory over Alabama.
Bowens thankfully has multiple weeks to get healthy as Georgia will either take on Ole Miss or Tulane in the CFP quarterfinals on Jan. 1. If UGA is going to make a serious run at a national title they need a healthy Bowens alongside Frazier, and according to Smart it sounds like there is a good chance that will happen.
