One of the biggest things that has happened so far this offseason for Georgia football was running back Trevor Etienne deciding to enter the 2025 NFL Draft. Etienne spent his first two years in college at Florida before coming to Georgia this past season, so he did have another year of eligibility to use, but Etienne ultimately decided that it was time for him to move on to the NFL.
Etienne now faces the 2025 NFL Combine where he will have a lot to prove after a solid year in Athens. The talent is clearly there for Etienne, but he did have suffer some injuries this past season that could impact his draft stock for some NFL organizations.
Etienne will workout with wide receivers Arian Smith and Dominic Lovett at the Combine on Saturday, but on Friday he met with reporters where he discussed why he chose to leave Georgia for the NFL this offseason.
"I mean, I feel like I was ready to take this next step in life,” Etienne shared via si.com. “Come out and show these NFL Scouts who I am, show that what kinda person I am, show that I'm ready to take this next step in life."
Etienne was ready for the NFL
Etienne later went on to share how he felt he accomplished and showed everything he needs to in college to feel comfortable with moving on to the NFL. So winning the SEC Championship this past season with Georgia might have been enough for him to feel ready to move on to the NFL after accomplishing such an impressive feat.
It's unfortunate that Etienne decided not to return as he would have given Georgia one of the best backfields in the entire country with Nate Frazier, but it's hard to be upset at anyone for chasing their dreams. It will be fun to see how he performs at the Combine and which team decides to take a chance on him, because there are a clearly a lot of NFL teams who could benefit from Etienne's skillset.
