One of the biggest stories entering the SEC Championship game against Alabama was the injury to Georgia’s starting center Drew Bobo. Georgia’s offensive line has dealt with a lot of injuries all season, but his absence heading into that game was the biggest injury to the group all year.
Georgia thankfully survived without him against the Tide, but the hope was that he would return before their College Football Playoff run began. Unfortunately that doesn’t look likely to happen as he is expected to miss the Sugar Bowl according to Brooks Austin with Georgia Bulldogs on SI.
Georgia dealt crushing injury nees to their offensive line
Bobo was injured during UGA’s regular season finale against Georgia Tech. Before his injury Georgia was running the ball at will, but after he left the game UGA struggled to move the ball both on the ground and through the air. This obviously was a big problem heading into their rematch against Alabama, but backup Malachi Toliver stepped up and helped Georgia’s line dominate Alabama’s defensive front.
If Bobo is out against Ole Miss then Toliver will continue to play in his place. Since he performed so well against Alabama there really isn’t a reason to be concerned about him, but missing Bobo is still a dangerous spot to be in.
What happen if Toliver gets injured during the game? Does Georgia have another player who can come in and play at a high enough level to win a playoff game? Likely no one knows the answer to that, and hopefully Georgia doesn’t have to find out.
If Toliver can stay healthy then Georgia’s offensive line should be just fine. But one more injury could destroy Georgia’s chances not only of winning a national title but of beating Ole Miss on Thursday.
