Georgia football is off and running with the 2026 recruiting class after they just got done signing another top five class in 2025. Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs are yet to earn many commitments in the 2026 class, but with this class just now taking center stage in the recruiting world that isn't a big deal.

Georgia is after a lot of the top recruits in the country for the class of 2026, and one of those players is running back Savion Hiter. Hiter is as good as they come for running backs in his class as he is a five-star player and the No. 1 running back in the country according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He also is the No. 14 overall player and the No. 1 player from his home state of Virginia.

Hiter has shown a lot of interest in Georgia recently as he was in Athens for the Tennessee game this season on a visit. That visit apparently went extremely well as Hiter also recently named Georgia as one of his top four schools.

But unfortunately for Georgia, Hiter just publicly named who his No. 1 school is, and that honor was given to the Michigan Wolverines.

Georgia is losing ground

It appeared that Georgia was the team to beat after Hiter's visit during the Tennessee game, and it's hard to think otherwise after how electric that game was and all the nice things Hiter said after the visit. But unfortunately that is no longer the case.

The bright side for Georgia is that they are still in the running for Hiter and have a year to surpass Michigan and win this recruitment. This will be extremely difficult to do because nobody has more recruiting momentum right now than the Wolverines after they just flipped the No. 1 player in the country in the 2025 class in Bryce Underwood from LSU. So there is a great chance Hiter will want to follow suit and play with him at Michigan.

But as mentioned, this recruitment still has a long ways to go, so as long as Georgia is in the running then UGA fans should feel good about their chances.
