Four-star safety Nick Carroll committed to Georgia football on Thursday afternoon. According to 247Sports he is the No. 48 overall recruit in the 2028 class, the No. 4 safety in the country and the fifth-best prospect from the state of Georgia.

Carroll's commitment shoots Georgia up to No. 6 in the recruiting rankings, but digging a bit deeper reveals how great of a position UGA is in to challenge for the No. 1 class ranking.

Carroll is a relatively new name for Georgia fans on the recruiting trail. Even though he is a top 50 recruit there hasn't been a lot of discussion surrounding his recruitment. That likely is due to him not having much interest in other schools, and the fact that he committed to Georgia over a year before signing day further cements that thought process.

Nick Carroll's commitment keeps Georgia's hot start to the 2028 recruiting cycle in tact

Georgia currently has the No. 6 ranked class in the 2028 recruiting class. It is still extremely early in the 2028 recruiting cycle, but it's clear that they are off to a good start with the three players they have committed to their class.

All five schools ranked higher than Georgia have more than three commits. The Bulldogs also have a higher average commit ranking compared to the five schools above them as well, so in a weird way Georgia actually has a better recruiting class than these other schools.

Carroll is the second-highest ranked commit in Georgia's class as he trails five-star quarterback Jayden Wade. Wade is the No. 2 overall recruit in the country who has been committed to Georgia for close to a year now. Holding onto Wade's commitment will be challenging since many other schools have attempted to flip him and will continue to do their best to steal him from Georgia over the next year, but so far he has remained loyal to UGA.

Four-star tight end Asa Wall is the third and final commit in Georgia's 2028 class. He is the lowest ranked commit as of now, but that won't last as UGA adds more commits because he is the No. 120 overall player in the country and the No. 7 tight end.

Both Wall and Carroll are from the state of Georgia, so it is nice to see the Bulldogs start out this strong within the state. They have struggled to get momentum with in-state prospects i the 2027 class, so it's nice to see Georgia find more success so far in this cycle.

The 2028 class still has until next December before they can sign with a school. This means it might be a little bit before Georgia lands another commit, but they are off to a great start so far and are laying the foundation for what could become one of the best recruiting classes in the country.
