Georgia is running out of opportunities for a home night game this season after the SEC gave them an early afternoon game time against Vanderbilt in week five. After the Commodores the Bulldogs only have three more home games and none of them stand out all that much, but their best opportunity to host a night game may just be against Missouri in November.
Georgia also has home games against Auburn and Georgia Tech this year too, but they both have had slow starts this season. It’s unlikely the SEC will give Georgia a night game if they both keep struggling, but Missouri has a chance to be ranked when they eventually come to Athens.
Missouri currently is ranked No. 19 in the country. They easily could be ranked even higher by the time they come to Georgia, but they have a tough schedule they have to get past first. They still have six more games until they play Georgia, and five of those are against teams currently ranked. If they can survive that gauntlet with a 4-2 record or better then they’ll probably be ranked when they come to Athens which could be what the SEC needs to finally give Georgia a home game.
Georgia seems to always have at least one home night game every season, so it seems like the SEC will give them one at some point. They are running out of opportunities though and if Georgia has to hope they get one against Missouri that shows how much the SEC messed up by not giving them a night game already.
SEC already missed their chance to give Georgia a good home night game
Georgia may or may not get a night game against Missouri, but they’ve already missed their best chance this season at one. The Bulldogs matchup against Oklahoma this weekend was a great opportunity to host a night game, but their game next week against Vanderbilt might be even better.
Georgia and Vanderbilt are both 3-0 this season and could very well still be undefeated next week. On top of that, former Georgia quarterback commit Jared Curtis will make his third career start in Athens after he turned his back on Georgia days before signing day last year. That is a great story that deserves to be told in front of a primetime audience, but this game will start at Noon or 12:45 pm EST next week.
To take it one step further though the week five slate in the SEC is lacking big games. Georgia’s matchup against Vanderbilt may be the best SEC game this week, but it undeniably is better than the two games that will be played at night that week. McNeese State at LSU somehow got a night slot as did Arkansas at Texas A&M. An FCS team playing at LSU doesn’t deserve a night game and the Aggies may not deserve a night game against a bad Arkansas team either after losing at home to Kentucky last week.
Oklahoma and Vanderbilt on paper are the biggest home games for Georgia this season. It’s a shame neither will be at night, but the SEC still has time to give them a night game later this year.
