Georgia vs Vanderbilt Week 5 game time is a complete disaster

Georgia's fifth game of the season is against Vanderbilt and it surprisingly is shaking up to be a massive showdown with a lot of drama. The SEC however doesn't seem to care as they announced that the game time for this matchup will either be Noon or 12:45 pm EST.

This is a huge mistake by the SEC. The week five slate in the SEC is a bit lackluster, so much so that Georgia and Vanderbilt could end up being the biggest game of the day in the conference. Typically that means they would get one of the two night game slots, but the SEC went with Arkansas at Texas A&M and McNeese State (an FCS school) at LSU instead.

Georgia is yet to have a night game this season after their week four matchup against Oklahoma got handed a mid-afternoon game time. With the way their schedule is shaping up they might not get a home night game this year, but this week however was a great opportunity for the SEC to finally give them a night game at home.

The SEC will miss out on two storylines that would make Georgia vs Vanderbilt a great night game

Georgia and Vanderbilt are both 3-0 so far this season. The Bulldogs have to beat Oklahoma this week and Vanderbilt has to beat Auburn, but there's a chance they are both 4-0 when they meet next week.

On top of that, maybe the biggest story in the SEC in week five will be Commodores quarterback Jared Curtis starting at Georgia who he was once committed to. Curtis was committed to Georgia for most of the 2026 recruiting cycle, but days before signing day he shockingly flipped to Vanderbilt instead.

Revenge will be on Georgia's mind during this game, but Curtis and Vanderbilt will look to prove why he made the right choice. Oh yeah, there's a chance Georgia could be the No. 1 team in the country too if Texas loses at Tennessee this week.

These are all great reasons for why this game should be at night, but the SEC completely dropped the ball.

SEC's Week 5 night games don't even compare to Georgia vs Vanderbilt

The two night games the SEC selected for week five are not exciting at all. First there is McNeese State, an FCS school, playing at LSU. This game will not only be a blowout, but LSU gets more opportunities to play at night than nearly every other school in the conference. It just makes sense to let another team have a turn when they are playing a bad team, but the SEC decided against that.

The other night game in week five sees Arkansas go to Texas A&M. The Aggies just lost at home to Kentucky and Arkansas might be the worst team in the SEC, so this is another game that probably didn't deserve a night game.

Georgia has three more home games against Auburn, Missouri and Georgia Tech after they play Vanderbilt. They however didn't stand a good chance at a night game for any of these games because Auburn and Georgia Tech are struggling this year and Missouri isn't a big name opponent by any means.

Vanderbilt was Georgia's best chance to get a night game the rest of the year, and even though it might be the best game in the conference in week five the SEC still refused to give them the night game they might've deserved. Now Georgia fans will have to settle for the worst game time when they play Vanderbilt.
