Jared Curtis raised the stakes for Georgia’s homecoming matchup against Vanderbilt

Every Georgia fan remembers when five-star quarterback Jared Curtis decommitted from UGA and flipped his commitment to Vanderbilt. Curtis wasn’t named the starter for Vanderbilt week one, but they just named him the starter heading into their next game this weekend which just so happens to be two games before they play Georgia.

Georgia and Vanderbilt play in two and a half weeks in Athens. This is also Georgia’s annual homecoming game this year, but the potential for Curtis to start in front of the fans he turned his back on makes this a far more exciting matchup than it originally seemed.

Georgia may just get their chance at revenge against Jared Curtis

Curtis hasn’t been named the full time starter yet, but all signs point to him being Vanderbilt’s starter for the rest of the season. That means in just two and a half weeks Georgia will get their chance at revenge when he comes to Athens.

Recruiting flips happen every week in college football. They even happen quite often with top recruits like Curtis, but the way his recruitment unfolded was a bit different.

Curtis was committed to Georgia twice. Yes, that means he also decommitted from them twice too. The first time he admitted to committing to Georgia too soon and that he wanted to weigh his options which included not giving up on Georgia. After doing so he decided Georgia was still the right fit for him so he pledged himself to UGA again.

Halfway through the 2025 season he started showing interest in Vanderbilt. He never publicly declared that he was interested, but he took multiple visits to Vanderbilt with many of them being in secret. Then just a couple days before signing day in December he officially flipped to Vanderbilt.

Since then Georgia was hoping they’d get a chance at revenge. It originally didn’t look like they would get that opportunity this year when he didn’t win the starting job out of fall camp, but Georgia seemingly will get that chance now.

Considering this will only be the third start of Curtis’ career it could end up being a long night for him and the Commodores in Athens.

Jared Curtis could fix Vanderbilt’s early season struggles

Vanderbilt is off to a shaky start two weeks into the season. They are 2-0, but their two wins against Austin Peay and Delaware were underwhelming to say the least.

A big reason for their early struggles is due to the poor play from quarterback Blaze Berlowitz. He was the Commodores starter for their first two games of the season, but he was replaced by Curtis in both games. Curtis came in their week two game pretty early on and had a great showing for his first true action in college after not playing much in week one.

He finished Vanderbilt’s second game completing 14 of 22 passes for 210 yards and one touchdown. He also found the end zone two times with his legs as well.

This solid game came against Delaware, so it does need to be taken with a grain of salt. He however showed glimpses of why he was a five-star quarterback and he didn’t leave much doubt that he is Vanderbilt’s best option at QB this season.

Curtis is getting the first start of his career at home against NC State this weekend. He and Vanderbilt will then travel to Auburn for their SEC opener the following week before heading to Athens in week five. Georgia will get to see how good Curtis actually is against some real competition before they face him, but he undeniably gives Vanderbilt the best opportunity to upset Georgia.

Georgia and Vanderbilt will play in Athens on Oct. 3, a game time hasn’t been announced for this matchup yet.
