A couple weeks ago Georgia lost their outside linebackers coach Chidera Uzo-Diribe to the Dallas Cowboys. It was hared to blame him since a job with the Cowboys would be hard for anyone to pass up, but this left an opening on Kirby Smart's staff that needed to be filled.

This position has not been officially filled yet, but On3's Pete Nakos reported on Sunday that they are closing in on hiring West Virginia pass rush specialist Larry Knight to be their next outside linebackers coach.

Georgia's close to poaching new coach from Big 12 program

Knight is potentially coming from West Virginia where he has only been their coach for two months. That's right, he was hired by West Virginia this January and is potenitally going to make another move again. It would be a shame for West Virginia to lose a new coach this fast, but that is what happens when Smart and Georgia come calling.

Before West Virginia, Knight spent some time at Arkansas State as their defensive ends coach and run game coordinator. He also coached at Temple before his time at Arkansas State as well.

Knight's resume is admittedly not that great, but the fact that he was hired as a pass rush specialist at West Virginia is a big deal. This shows that he knows what it takes to get after the qurterback, and that is something that was really missing for much of last season from Georgia's defense.

So the fact that he will potentially coach Georgia's outside linebackers now is significant because they can use all the help they can get when it comes to rushing the quarterback.

As mentioned, this hire has not been made official yet, but typically when a report like this surfaces it is only a matter of time. So Georgia is closing in on a hire that should excite everyone as it should immediately make their defense much better.
