In a little over a week Georgia football will learn their fate when it comes to the College Football Playoff. But one thing is certain, they will make the 12-team field again this season even if they make the SEC Championship and lose that game.
While Georgia still has no clue who will stand in their way once the playoff begins, their path to winning a National Championship feels a lot more difficult after their 16-9 win over Georgia Tech.
Georgia's journey in the CFP just got a lot more challenging
Confidence was at an all time high before Georgia's matchup with Georgia Tech on Friday. The Bulldogs offense was still playing at a high level like they had been all season, and UGA's defense finally appeared to turn a corner as well. So after feeling like Georgia's offense was going to have to be perfect to win a National Championship, they finally looked like one of the most balanced teams in the country.
But those feelings no longer exist after seeing Gunner Stockton and the Georgia offense struggle all night against the Yellow Jackets. It's impossible to not mention how great the run game was behind Nate Frazier, but Georgia is going to need the passing game to come alive again if they are going to make a run in the playoff.
So even though Georgia doesn't know who they will face in the playoff, whoever it is will pose a larger challenge than UGA fans may have originally thought. But all it will take is one big performance from Stockton and the offense again for those feelings to go away.
And knowing the type of player and leader Stockton is, it is very likely that he will bounce back in a big way the next time he takes the field.
