"Survives" is the perfect word to use after Georgia's 16-9 win over Georgia Tech Friday night. There weren't many points throughout the game where UGA deserved a lot of praise, but at the end of the day they got the job done and beat their in-state rival for the eighth year in a row.
Georgia's dominant 1st half on the ground propels UGA to rivalry victory
Georgia played a relatively good first half even though they only led Georgia Tech 13-3 at the half. The Bulldogs defense was solid from the opening drive, and Georgia's offense was powered by a dominant rushing attack.
Chauncey Bowens did not play for the second week in a row, but Nate Frazier picked up the slack as he exploded for nearly 100 yards in the first half alone. Josh McCray also had himself a solid first half as he exceeded 30 yards himself.
Georgia's passing game however was nonexistant in the first half, and that prevented UGA from putting any distance between themselves and Tech. And when Georgia's run game slowed down in the second half they unfortunately weren't able to make up for it through the air.
But at the end of the day Georgia was able to win their eleventh game of the season, and that is the only thing that matters in a rivalry game of this magnitude.
Georgia's future is as uncertain as ever before
Georgia will now enter postseason play, but their future is as uncertain as ever before. The Bulldogs have done enough to earn their spot in the College Football Playoff, but they will have over a week to wait until they find out what their path looks like.
Georgia also has not clinched their spot in the SEC Championship game just yet either. They either need Texas A&M to lose to Texas Friday night or they need Alabama to lose at Auburn on Saturday. If either of those results go Georgia's way then they will find themselves in the SEC Championship game once again.
But for now Georgia can celebrate their eighth win over Georgia Tech in a row and another very strong regular season.
