Georgia’s daring to do what no other SEC team is brave enough to attempt

Georgia is scheduling opponents the rest of the SEC aren't even dreaming of.

Georgia has the luxury of playing one of the most difficult schedules in the country every year. A lot of that has to do with the grind that is playing an SEC schedule, and that grind is getting even more difficult this year when the conference begins playing nine league games every year.

But Georgia takes it one step further by scheduling a lot of tough non-conference opponents. In fact, Georgia has more non-conference Power Four opponents scheduled than every other team in the SEC.

The rest of the SEC could learn a thing or two from Georgia

The above data is a little outdated at this point, but the above chart shows that Georgia has scheduled 22 non-conference Power Four opponents over the next 10 years as of last July. This data has changed a little since Georgia was forced to cancel upcoming series against Louisville and NC State, but as it stands today Georgia still has 20 non-conference Power Four opponents on their upcoming schedules.

Some other SEC schools have a similar number of big name non-conference opponents on their schedule, but a majority aren't even close to Georgia's total.

Georgia does hae the luxury of playing Geogia Tech every season, but they aren't relying on their in-state rival to challenge themselves out of conference. Beginning in 2027 Georgia has another Power Four non-conference opponent on their schedule other than Georgia Tech every year until 2033. This includes upcoming series against Florida State, Clemson (twice) and Ohio State.

Then there is the 2030 season where Georgia has three Power Four non-conference opponents on their schedule in Georgia Tech, Ohio State and Clemson.

Some may argue that playing a difficult schedule is no longer in Georgia's best interest. Just last year Indiana won a national title by playing three teams without a pulse out of conference. But so far Georgia is keeping these teams on their schedule which is something most of the SEC is afraid to do.

There is a chance Georgia will cancel future non-conference series, but as it stands today Georgia is daring to do what no one else in the SEC is willing to even dream about.
