Georgia is rolling into week four with a perfect 3-0 record after defeating Arkansas 45-17. They have been dominant in all three of their games this season, but that may have more to do with the lack of competition they've faced so far this year. That is expected to change next week though when the Oklahoma Sooners come to Athens in what could be the biggest home game of the season for Georgia.
Oklahoma is much better than the three teams Georgia has faced so far this season. Based on the start to their season though they may not be as difficult of a test as Georgia once thought.
Oklahoma's early struggles lead to a big spread in Georgia's favor
Oklahoma entered the season as the No. 10 team in the country. Through the first week of the season they lived up to that hype by beating UTEP 51-0, but it's been a downward spiral since then.
Week two saw them head to Michigan for a big road game. The Wolverines however weren't ranked after they controversially beat Western Michigan by one point after completing a Hail Mary on the final play of the game. Oklahoma still lost to this Michigan team 17-10 when most expected them to dominate, but to make matters worse this Michigan team looked bad again in week three as they were tied with UTEP at halftime.
Oklahoma also didn't look great in week three as they only beat New Mexico 14-6 at home.
Georgia on the other hand has dominated all three of their opponents this season. Combining that with Oklahoma's recent struggles has resulted in Vegas naming Georgia a two touchdown favorite over the Sooners.
Before the season began this spread would have been much closer, but the Sooners poor play the last two weeks combined with Georgia's easy victories makes this matchup seem less exciting on paper than it once was.
The Sooners' defense will still be a signficant challenge for Georgia
Oklahoma's offense has been the group that's let the Sooners down this season. Their defense however came into this season with expectations of being one of the best defenses in the country, and they have mostly lived up to that hype.
Oklahoma has only given up 7.6 points per game this season. That includes holding both UTEP and New Mexico under seven points and only allowing Michigan to score 17 which was good enough for them to win that game.
Oklahoma's defense is legit and they will not be scared when they come to Sanford Stadium. Georgia's defense will be licking their chops when they see Oklahoma's struggling offense line up against them, but Gunner Stockton and his offense will have to face a real challenge for the first time this season.
This is exactly what Georgia's offense needs at this point in the season though. The Bulldogs are still No. 1 in the county in scoring as they've put up 57.5 points per game this year, but a lot of that is due to the level of competition they've faced. Oklahoma has a good enough defense where Georgia won't be able to just show up and dominate, so after this game fans will know once and for all how good Georgia's offense is and how great of a team UGA can be.
