Georgia is flying into week four with a perfect 3-0 record after dominating Arkansas 45-17 on the road in their SEC opener. The Bulldogs won't have too much time to celebrate though because up next is their toughest test yet as the Oklahoma Sooners are coming to Athens.
This should be a top 25 matchup featuring two of the best programs in college football. Georgia has done everything they can so far this season to make this a big game, but Oklahoma has let UGA down with how they've played so far this year. As a result Georgia is favored by more points than expected over Oklahoma.
Georgia vs Oklahoma spread heavily favors the Bulldogs
Georgia opened as a 14 point favorite over Oklahoma, according to DraftKings Sportsbook. The over-under for this game is set at 47.5 point as well.
ESPN's matchup predictor also loves Georgia in this game as they give the Bulldogs a whopping 83.4 percent chance to come away with a victory.
At the start of the season Georgia and Oklahoma were both ranked high in the AP Poll. This game figured to be a matchup between two teams that were still ranked high and 3-0 at this point in the season, that however has not happened and Oklahoma's early struggles to start the year explain why this spread is as large as it is.
Oklahoma may not present the real challenge Georgia thought they were getting
Oklahoma began their season with a 51-0 victory over UTEP. This was the expected result in this game, but since then the Sooners haven't lived up to the hype.
Oklahoma traveled to Michigan in week two where they lost their first game of the season 17-10. Losing at Michigan on paper isn't that bad, but this is a Wolverines team that controversially beat Western Michigan by one point in week one and were tied with the same UTEP team at halftime this past week. This loss to Michigan isn't the worst defeat in the world, but it isn't the prettiest either.
Oklahoma had an opportunity to get right on Saturday when they played New Mexico at home. They however struggled again and only won 14-6.
These last two weeks explain why Georgia is a two touchdown favorite over Oklahoma. The Sooners have not lived up to their preseason expectations while Georgia has arguably surpassed their expectations so far. The Bulldogs haven't played anyone good yet, but they deserve credit for covering the spread with relative ease in all three of their games so far this season.
Oklahoma's offense has been the unit holding them back this season. Their defense has been dominant and have lived up to the expectations they had entering this season. They still look like one of the best defenses in the country, so Georgia's offense should expect a significant challenge in this game.
The same however can't be said for Georgia's defense who will go up against an Oklahoma offense that has struggled to move the ball each of the last two weeks.
Kickoff between Georgia and Oklahoma is scheduled for 3:30 pm EST on Saturday, Sept. 26.
