Kirby Smart has Georgia off and running in the 2028 recruiting class. They do only have two commits right now, but that is already good enough to have the No. 1 recruiting class in the country.

But that isn’t why they are in a league of their own. The reason they are in their own league right now is because they are the only school that holds a commitment from a five-star recruit in the 2028 class right now.

Jayden Wade puts Georgia in a unique position with the 2028 recruiting class

The 2028 recruiting cycle is obviously very young, but the Bulldogs are in as good of a spot as possible. Their two commits are both ranked inside the top 120 right now, but it is five-star QB Jayden Wade who is carrying their recruiting class.

After Rivals most recent rankings update this week it turned out that there were only 10 five-star recruits right now. Of those 10 players Wade is the only one who is currently committed, which he did so back in 2025 when he made his pledge to Georgia.

This is a big deal not only for the 2028 recruiting cycle for Georgia, but because it shows that Kirby Smart might already be learning from one of his biggest mistakes in the 2027 recruiting class.

Kirby Smart is already making a key adjustment with recruiting the 2028 class

Georgia has been losing recruitments left and right in the 2027 recruiting class. That’s going to happen for any school, but Georgia has been losing recruitments before these players even take their scheduled visit to Athens.

This is a relatively new trend in college football that is seeing players commit before finishing all of their visits. This has hurt Georgia with a few recruits, but the even bigger problem is that they aren’t getting their top recruits to commit early when they are on campus.

This so far hasn’t been a problem in the 2028 recruiting class. Their commitment from Wade, who is the No. 1 QB in the country, is the best example of Smart getting his top recruit to commit early as he did so back in November. Georgia also pulled this off with top 120 tight end Asa Wall who committed to UGA last October.

Georgia now has to ensure they hold onto these commitments until they officially sign in a year and a half, but getting these early commitments could be what leads them to have one of the top 2028 recruiting classes. Now it’s important to start making more progress with the 2027 class which begins this weekend during yet another massive official visit weekend in Athens.
