Georgia's loss to Auburn puts them in a bit of a dangerous spot when it comes to the College Football Playoff. A 10-2 record should still be good enough to get into the playoff, but with three more difficult games still on their schedule losing to Auburn makes Georgia's life far more difficult than it needed to be.

This loss however may not be the worst thing in the world in the long run. In fact, based on the last two years this defeat could be what Georgia needed to propel them to a deep playoff run.

Motivation will be at an all time high

Georgia's motivation will be at an all time high the rest of the season. They shouldn't need to suffer a defeat to be extremely motivated, but their motivation will reach new heights after losing this game.

Losses happen in college football and in the 12-team playoff era one loss doesn't end anyone's season. Losing to a rival at home though as the No. 1 team in the country is a loss that no one wants to suffer.

Georgia for the rest of the season will now want to prove this defeat was a fluke and that they are in fact one of the best teams in the country because after this loss the rest of the country will question just how good they are.

Ohio State, Miami proved that losses don't end anyone's season

There have only been two editions of the 12-team playoff, and in each of those years there was a team that used regular season losses to propel them to a deep playoff run.

Last year Miami was the last at-large team to make the playoff. They entered the playoff with a 10-2 record after losing to two unranked teams (Louisville and SMU) during the regular season. They didn't let these losses define their season though as they beat Texas A&M, Ohio State and Ole Miss in the playoff en route to the national championship game which they barely lost to Indiana.

2024 is an even better example of what a regular season loss can do for a team with national championship aspirations. That year Ohio State won the national championship and they too went 10-2 during the regular season. One of their losses was on the road to Oregon who went 13-0 and was the No. 1 overall seed, but their second loss was to Michigan. This wasn't just any loss though because Ohio State was a big favorite at home against an unranked Michigan team who is their rival who had no business winning that game, that sounds a lot like Georgia's loss to Auburn.

Losing to Auburn doesn't guarantee that Georgia will go on a deep playoff run later this year, this defeat however doesn't mean they won't. If Georgia uses this defeat to their advantage they will allow it to motivate them to show the college football world how good they are, and in today's age that means making a run in the playoff.

The good news for Georgia is that Miami and Ohio State showed how possible making a deep playoff run still is.
