Georgia’s loss to Auburn may have been the best thing that could’ve happened

Georgia has looked like a completely different team since losing to Auburn earlier this season.

About a month ago Georgia was riding high after beating Alabama on the road. Then just one week later their world was shattered when Auburn came to Athens and beat them on a last second field goal.

Losing to Auburn is not fun. Losing to a bad Auburn team is even worse. Maybe this defeat is exactly what Georgia needed though because they have looked like a new beast since that loss after beating Ole Miss 42-7 on Saturday.

Losing to Auburn motivated Georgia more than anything else could have

Georgia has only played two games since losing to Auburn. In those two games they beat two ranked teams in dominant fashion including this win over Ole Miss and a 27-8 victory over Florida last week. Maybe Georgia still wins both of these games even if they had beat Auburn, but that loss to Auburn was a turning point for this season.

Georgia may have had a big ego after beating Alabama and becoming the No. 1 team in the country. They might have felt like they already accomplished something this season, but that loss to Auburn brought them back to reality. Georgia had to sit on that loss for two weeks since they had their bye week before playing another game, so they had plenty of time to think about what happened and how they were going to respond.

Georgia so far has responded perfectly in the two games they've played since losing to Auburn. Georgia may have still won both of these games even if the loss to Auburn never happened, but that defeat has led Georgia to become the team they are today. That loss to a bad Auburn team is why Georgia is playing so great right now and why they are the favorites to win the national championship.

Sure it would've been nice to keep their long win streak against Auburn in tact, but if Georgia ends up winning it all this season UGA may end up weirdly thankful that they lost to Auburn since it was the clear turning point to this season.

Georgia can't let the Ole Miss win get to their head

Georgia's win over Ole Miss is weirdly similar to their win over Alabama. Both games were on the road, at night and against extremely good football teams. The Bulldogs won both games in extremely emotional settings, but after beating Alabama they lost to Auburn one week later. They can't let that happen this time.

Georgia gets Missouri next week at home. Missouri is better than Auburn, but this has a similar feeling as the Auburn game in that Georgia should have no issues winning. The Bulldogs likely will be ranked No. 1 since Miami lost on Saturday, so just like the Auburn game this will be the first week they are ranked No. 1 again.

There are countless similarities between then and now, but Georgia hopefully learned their lesson from the Auburn loss. Beating Ole Miss by 35 is great and being ranked No. 1 in the country is fun, but they still haven't won anything yet. Georgia still has work to do to win the SEC and to win the College Football Playoff, so they can't afford to act like they accomplished anything just because they beat Ole Miss this weekend.
