Georgia football is in hot pursuit of one of the top recruits in the country. That player is Kemon Spell, who is a five-star running back from Pennsylvania in the 2027 recruiting class.
Spell had been committed to Penn State for over a year, but after Penn State fired head coach James Franklin he immediately decommitted from the Nittany Lions. This was significant news for Georgia because they offered Spell a scholarship on Oct. 8 and already got a visit on the books for him to come to Athens for a game this season. So now that Penn State fired their head coach it appeared Georgia could be the new team to beat in his recruitment.
It however turns out that Georgia still has a lot of work to do to win this recruitment because a few other elite programs are also standing out to Spell as well.

Georgia faces tough competition for 5-star RB Kemon Spell
According to On3's Hayes Fawcett, USC, Florida State, Miami (FL), Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan and Tennessee are the seven other programs standing out to Spell along with Georgia right now. It's clear how difficult it is going to be for Georgia to win this recruitment against these programs, but there are some reasons for UGA to be hopeful.
Before Franklin was fired on Sunday, Georgia was the only team finding success with Spell. That doesn't mean no other team was making moves with him behind the scenes, but Georgia was the one and only team publicly finding success with him.
This makes it seem like Georgia is the No.1 school on his list right now, but that has yet to be confirmed. Regardless, Georgia is one of the top teams in Spell's recruitment and they will have every chance to win this recruitment over the next year.
