While Georgia football's win over Auburn on Saturday was major news in the college football world, they were quickly overshadowed by the latest head coach firing. This time it was Penn State who decided to fire James Franklin after the Nittany Lions dropped their third game in a row on Saturday after beginning the season as the No. 2 team in the country.

Most Georgia fans may not think this news impacts UGA at all. Penn State is in the Big Ten and nowhere near Georgia geographically, so it isn't surprising if Georgia fans just brush this news off.

But that is the last thing Georgia should do because Franklin being fired will help Georgia in their pursuit of five-star running back Kemon Spell.

Penn State firing James Franklin is already helping Georgia with 5-star RB Kemon Spell

Spell is a five-star running back who has been committed to Penn State for over a year. According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Spell is the No. 8 overall player in the country and the top ranked running back in the 2027 recruiting class.

Georgia quickly became a major player in his recruitment this past week as they offered Spell a scholarship on Oct. 8. Spell immediately scheduled a visit to Athens for a game later this season which shows how interested he already was in Georgia.

All of these developments occurred before Franklin was fired by Penn State, but now that he is out of the picture the hope is that Spell will officially decommit from Penn a state. And just one hour after Franklin was fired Spell made that exact decision.

Georgia appears to be in a prime positioin to land Spell now, but they will have to hold off countless other programs who will get involved now. But Georgia was already in a great position with Spell before this news, and this firing and subsequent decommitment will only help UGA in their pursuit.
