Tyler Atkinson has quickly become one of the most talked about recruits in the country. The five-star linebacker from the state of Georgia is the top ranked linebacker in the 2026 recruiting class, and his recruitment appears to be coming to end soon.
According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, Atkinson officially announced his four finalists on Wednesday which includes Georgia, Texas, Clemson and Oregon.

This news is significant because Ohio State was thought to still be in the running for Atkinson, but thankfully Georgia no longer has to worry about the National Champion Buckeyes. And with a commitment reportedly coming soon, the Bulldogs now have some work to do come out on top for the No. 1 player from the Peach State.
Georgia still in favorable position with Tyler Atkinson
Georgia has been the favorite in Atkinson’s recruitment for quite some time now. After Atkinson’s final official visit to Texas, many reports came in stating that the Longhorns made up a lot of ground, but the consensus remained that Georgia and Kirby Smart was still out in front.
This fact was once again confirmed by Rivals insider Adam Gorney who shared the following social media post immediately after this announcement from Atkinson.
Still have to think Georgia is in great shape. https://t.co/WtpI9aQquF

It’s unfortunate that Atkinson didn’t share a specific date he plans to commit, because the sooner he does share his final decision the better Georgia’s chances likely are. But reports do indicate that Atkinson will likely announce his commitment by the beginning of August if not throughout the month of July at some point.
Regardless, Georgia fans should have a lot of hope in this recruitment still because no expert has claimed any team has passed UGA yet. That obviously can change at any point, but as of right now the Bulldogs are still the team to beat.
