Georgia football is continuing their aggressive pursuit of five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson. Ohio State, Texas, Clemson and Oregon are also in the mix for the No. 1 linebacker in the 2026 recruiting class, but the thought for a few months now has been that Georgia is the leader in his recruitment.

Without a commitment date however, it's hard to know exactly where Georgia stands with Atkinson. But more reports continue to come in that confirm Georgia is still the leader, with the most recent report coming from Dawg Post insider Matt DeBary.

DeBary also shared the potential timeline for a commitment from Atkinson, and his commitment could be coming sooner rather than later.

"Ohio State, Clemson, Texas, and Oregon are all still in the mix, but sources continue to tell Dawg Post that the Bulldogs are in the driver’s seat," Matt DeBary shared via dawgpost.com. "He has a great relationship with Glenn Schumann, Kirby Smart and the rest of the Georgia staff. While there’s no set decision date, a source says a commitment could come in late July or early August. It’s going to be very hard for Atkinson to tell Glenn Schumann “no thanks” when it’s time to make a decision. The Bulldogs remain in great shape to land the elite in-state defender."

Georgia still has work to do to land 5-star LB Tyler Atkinson

This is now the second report that has indicated a potential timeline for a commitment from Atkinson. The first report indicated that he could commit sometime in July, but DeBary has added that it could be as late as early August. Unfortunately it likely will be awhile until an official date is shared because Atkinson didn't anonounce his official visits in June until the week of.

So while UGA fans wait for this commitment, Kirby Smart and his staff have a lot of work to do to remain the leader in his recruitment. The Longhorns reportedly are the the biggest competition for Georgia in this recruitment, and everyone knows how difficult beating Texas can be on the recruiting trail.

But as long as reports like this keep indicating that Georgia is still the leader, then UGA fans should remain hopeful he will be a member of Georgia's recruiting class at some point in the future.
