Vegas odds never tell the full story, but they’re telling a story that Georgia fans will want to believe. Odds set by Vegas will adjust throughout the year, but as it stands heading into the Bulldogs’ season opener they are favored in all 12 of their games.
There are a few games though that Georgia is a relatively small favorite in, and those are the games that could really trip Georgia up this season.
Vegas oddsmakers are pumping confidence into Georgia
Alabama and Ole Miss are the two games this season that Vegas believes will be Georgia’s biggest challenge. Georgia is favored by nearly two scores or more in every other game, but their matchups against the Tide and Rebels are predicted to be close.
Georgia is only favored by three against Alabama and are 4.5 point favorites against Ole Miss.
Both of these games are on the road, so that is one reason why Georgia is expected to struggle. Beyond that, Alabama and Ole Miss are just overall extremely good teams. They both beat Georgia last season and have strong rosters again this year, so out of all the teams on Georgia’s schedule they will be the most difficult to beat.
Vegas however still thinks Georgia will win both games which is encouraging to see, but it by no means will be easy.
Georgia’s schedule sets them up for success
Georgia is used to facing one of the most difficult schedules in the country most years, but this season they (on paper) have one of the easiest schedules they’ve seen in years.
The Bulldogs still have the 20th most difficult schedule in the country, but it is the easiest in the SEC. This should hopefully set them up to make another run at an SEC Championship where they could become just the third program to win the SEC three years in a row since the SEC Championship game began.
Alabama and Ole Miss are clearly standing in their way as teams that could prevent them from even reaching Atlanta. They are also part of a daunting four game stretch that begins with Alabama and ends with Ole Miss with two rivalry matchups against Florida and Auburn in between.
If Georgia can survive that stretch though then they will have a nice path to get to Atlanta and the College Football Playoff. Nothing is guaranteed in the SEC, but all things considered the Bulldogs have one of the best schedules they’ve potentially ever had in Kirby Smart’s tenure that sets them up for another big season.
