Georgia will be looking for a new quarterback ahead of the 2027 season, but that player may not even be on their roster right now.

Gunner Stockton is entering the final year of his college career, so Georgia will need to find a new starting quarterback next offseason. Every player on their roster will have a chance to prove why they deserve the job, but there’s a chance Jayden Wade, who is a five-star Georgia quarterback commit in the 2028 class, could be the starter in Athens next season.

Jayden Wade could compete for Georgia’s starting QB job for the 2027 season

Any true freshman would have a tough time winning the starting quarterback job at Georgia, but Wade may have a good shot to do it. His most recent high school game showed that as he led his team to a 52-10 halftime lead after throwing four touchdown passes and running for one more.

He even has Georgia insiders saying he is the most talented quarterback Georgia’s had committed to them in quite some time.

The only problem with this scenario is that Wade is in the 2028 class, so he still has two more years of high school before he comes to Georgia. He however could always reclassify to the 2027 class and come to Georgia next year.

Georgia does already have a solid four-star QB in the 2027 class committed to them in Colton Nussmeier, but if a talent like Wade decides he wants to come to Georgia early Kirby Smart and his staff likely wouldn’t be able to say no.

Wade hasn’t reclassified up to this point, but there’s been rumors that it could happen. If he does then he would absolutely have a chance to come in as a freshman next year and win the starting job.

Georgia’s QB battle ahead of the 2027 season could be the most intriguing in recent history

Ryan Puglisi and Ryan Montgomery are the two most likely quarterbacks to win the starting job at Georgia next year. They are in a battle right now to be Gunner Stockton’s backup this season, so one would assume the competition next offseason will be between them.

If they both stay out of the Transfer Portal then they will have a chance to win the starting job, but if Wade reclassifies and comes to Georgia early then they’ll have to compete against him too.

That would create one of the most intriguing quarterback battles in Georgia football history. There’d be two veterans in Puglisi who would be in his fourth year with the program and Montgomery who’d be in his third battling a true freshman who isn’t even 18 yet. It would also be a tight battle between all three players with each having a realistic chance to win the job.

Wade has a good amount of time to decide if he’s going to reclassify or not. At this point there have only been rumors that he could, but until he officially speaks on it then they will always just be rumors.
