Georgia football has a lot of work to do this season. Their loss to Alabama put them in a dangerous spot as they fell to No. 12 in the country which is right on the cut line when it comes to the College Football Playoff rankings.
The first edition of the CFP rankings don't come out until November, so the Bulldogs still have ample time to improve their resume. But Georgia's season reaches it's halfway point this weekend, so the Bulldogs need to start building their resume now.
Georgia's easiest path to the College football Playoff
Georgia's path to the College Football Playoff can be simple. If UGA just wins the rest of their games then they are guaranteed to make it into the CFP for the second year in a row.
But the SEC is as tough of a conference as ever before, so that won't be an easy feat. So what are some other things Georgia can do to help improve their resume?
3 things Georgia can do to improve their CFP resume
The first thing Georgia needs to do is win all of the games they "should" win by a comfortable margin. When the Bulldogs play Mississippi State, Florida and Georgia Tech later this season they will be big favorites, so they will need to actually go out and win those games by a comfortable margin to help their resume.
The second thing Georgia needs to do is pick up another huge win against a great team. They already have one of those wins against Tennessee on their resume, but they will need a second to really improve their standing with the CFP committee. Unfortunately the only ranked SEC opponent left on Georgia's schedule is No. 4 Ole Miss who they play next week, so that game is a must win for Georgia.
The third and final thing Georgia needs to do is avoid a catastophic loss. Last season the Bulldogs got blown out by Ole Miss which sent them from No. 3 all the way down to No. 12 in the CFP rankings. Georgia did climb their way back up after that game, but a similar loss could hurt UGA again this season.
The only thing however that truly matters for Georgia is their next game. They need to take things one game at a time, and if they handle their business they won't have to worry about the CFP committee or their rankings. So for the next week the only thing UGA needs to worry about is Auburn who presents a nice opportunity to add another quality road win to their resume.
