Georgia’s transfer portal momentum predicted to come to crashing end

Georgia football has been on fire in the transfer portal the past few days. So far this spring, Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs have added three players from the portal who all fill a massive hole in Georgia’s roster.

One of the holes Georgia needed to fill was on the defensive line as the Bulldogs lost countless players to the NFL Draft and transfer portal this offseason. Thankfully UGA has addressed that need in a big way by adding EDGE Elo Modozie and defensive lineman Joshua Horton.

Even after these big acquisitions, Georgia could still use some more help up front on the defensive line, so it’s important for UGA to keep their foot on the gas as they pursue more targets.

One of those players Georgia has been targeting is North Carolina EDGE Beau Atkinson. Atkinson has reportedly taken a visit to both Georgia and Ohio State, but a recent update from On3 spells disaster for the Bulldogs.

Both Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakos with On3 have predicted Atkinson to commit to Ohio State over Georgia. This is not the news any Georgia fan wanted to see because Atkinson is one of the top EDGE defenders currently in the transfer portal. So his addition would have been massive as he could have become a starter upon his arrival in Athens.

At the same time however, this news isn’t the end of the world because of the already mentioned Modozie who announced his transfer to Georgia on Sunday. In fact, 247Sports ranks Modozie as the better player, so Georgia may have gotten the better player of the two.

Obviously Georgia would have preferred to earn commitments from both players, but this loss isn’t the end of the world. But it would be nice for UGA to add more help up front, so it will be interesting to see who their next target is.
