In two weeks the College Football Playoff committee will release their first rankings of the season. Georgia undoubtedly will be near the top of those rankings, but after how inconsistent the committee was with their rankings last season it is impossible to know what they are going to do.
But Georgia sent a strong message to the CFP committee Saturday night during their win over Ole Miss, and that message was that they need to actually take the Bulldogs seriously this season and respect them as one of the best teams in the country.
Georgia has one of the best College Football Playoff resumes in the country
The CFP committee was reluctant to crown Georgia as one of the best teams in the country last season. Sure the Bulldogs ultimately earned the No. 2 seed after winning the SEC, but the committee was not in love with Georgia throughout last year.
After Georgia lost to Ole Miss last season, who as a reminder was a top 15 team in the country at the time, the committee decided to drop Georgia from No. 3 to No. 12. This had UGA sitting outside of the 12-team playoff field as the No. 13 seed. That free fall was not fair, and Georgia proved that throughout the rest of the 2024 season.
So what is the committee going to do this season? Unfortunately no one knows, but Georgia sent them a strong message that they need to be respected. Georgia does have one loss so far this season, but that came to Alabama who looks like one of the best teams in the country. UGA should not be punished for that loss, but they should be rewarded for their impressive wins over Tennessee and Auburn on the road and their big win over Ole Miss on Saturday.
Georgia will have one more opportunity to improve their resume before the first rankings are released, but Saturday they sent a message to the CFP committee. And that message was loud and clear that Georgia proved they are one of the best teams in the country during their win over Ole Miss.
