Georgia is staring a gauntlet of a schedule directly in the face with just under 100 days until the season begins. A difficult schedule is nothing new to Georgia, but it is always a bit nerve-wracking seeing the teams they will have to play this season.
For the third year in a row Georgia's most difficult game of the regular season will be a massive showdown against Alabama. And unlike last year they will have to face the Tide on the road.
This game won't be played until October 10, but Vegas has already released their opening spread and it tells Georgia that good things could be coming this season.
Georgia vs Alabama opening spread favors Bulldogs in biggest game of the season
FanDuel Sportsbook's opening spread for Georgia's road tilt against Alabama favors the Bulldogs by 2.5 points. This means that either team is more than capable of winning this game (obviously), but Vegas likes Georgia's chances just a little bit more.
After defeating Alabama in the SEC Championship game last year, UGA is looking to win the SEC for the third year in a row. No school has done that since Alabama when they won three in a row from 2014-16, but Kirby Smart has his team in position to unseat the Tide this season.
Winning his game will be critically important to hoisting the SEC Championship trophy again. Sure Georgia still won the SEC the last two years after losing to Alabama in the regular season each year, but winning the most difficult game on their schedule would nearly guarantee their spot in the SEC Championship game again this season.
3 things Georgia vs Alabama opening spread says about Georgia
Georgia is the best team in the SEC
This opening spread tells Georgia that Vegas thinks they are one of the best teams in the SEC. Sure Texas is the betting favorite, but their odds are relatively the same.
Georgia will probably be the only team favored at Alabama this season and that fact alone shows how confident Vegas is in Georgia winning the SEC again this year.
Gunner Stockton will take a step in the right direction
The one thing Georgia needs most in order to compete at the highest level is for Gunner Stockton to improve a lot from last year. Sure Stockton was good enough to win the SEC and beat Alabama last year, but an improved Stockton could be what takes Georgia back to the top of the college football world.
Georgia hasn't won at Alabama since 2007, and if they are going to do it this year it will be because Stockton is a much better player.
Georgia will compete for a National Championship again this season
If Georgia can win at Alabama then they can beat any team anywhere. This includes in the College Football Playoff where they have really struggled the last two years.
Vegas believes Georgia will win at Alabama, so that essentially is them confirming that Georgia is good enough to make a run at a National Championship and is able to beat anyone that gets in their way.
