Georgia opened as a 9.5 point favorite over Florida for this weekend's rivalry matchup. That spread however quickly jumped to 11.5 points within the first days of this spread going live.

It is normal for a spread to adjust slightly from where it opened in the first few days, but this spread still hasn't stopped moving. Georgia now is a 12.5 point favorite over Florida according to the DraftKings Sportsbook, but the more the spread changes the more worried UGA fans maybe should be.

The spread changing this much could be bad news for Georgia

The only reason a spread would change this much is because nearly everyone is betting on Georgia to win. That was confirmed on social media this week when oddsmakers shared that 88 percent of the bets are in Georgia's favor to cover the spread against Florida.

That may seem like a good thing for Georgia if so many people believe in them, but in reality the exact opposite might be true. Vegas didn't get rich by bettors being right all the time, they built their tall hotels because the average gambler is bad at picking games. So when a team is bet on this much that for whatever reason is a sign that an upset could be brewing.

At the end of the day Georgia still has every chance to beat Florida and whatever Vegas says won't have an actual impact on the game, but it historically isn't that good when a team is bet on as much as Georgia has this week.

One factor that could be impacting the spread in Georgia's favor

One reason why this spread might be shifting this much in Georgia's favor is because of the potential controversy at quarterback for Florida. Their top two quarterbacks are both questionable to play against Georgia this weekend due to injury, and if they have to play their third string it's hard to imagine Georgia not winning by a wide margin.

Florida's problems might go much further than them potentially not having a healthy quarterback this weekend though. Their backup, Tramell Jones, got his first start of the season against Texas two weeks ago when starter Aaron Philo wasn't able to play. During that game he played extremely well and led them to an upset win at Texas.

This has led many Florida fans to want him to continue playing because Philo dropped two games to Missouri and South Carolina already this season. The feeling inside the program though is that Philo is their preferred starter, but members of the team may not agree.

As the week goes on this controversy could continue brewing and eventually boil over if the quarterback who does play starts poorly.

This potential controversy, along with the fact that neither player is 100 percent healthy, could be why Georgia continues to become more of a favorite. It ultimately doesn't matter what Vegas thinks, but the unknown at quarterback for Florida and the constant movement in the spread has been interesting to watch.

Game odds adjust periodically and are subject to change.
