Georgia football is just a few hours away from beginning their College Football Playoff run against Notre Dame at the Sugar Bowl. Up to this point UGA has been the betting favorite as the Bulldogs have been around a 1.5 point favorite according to Vegas since the line opened after Notre Dame beat Indiana in the first round of the CFP.

Those odds however have changed drastically in the final hours leading up to this game.

Georgia vs. Notre Dame Final Odds

Georgia out of nowhere has moved from the betting favorite to the underdog in a matter of a few hours. As of 11:15 am EST, Georgia is now a 1.5 point underdog to Notre Dame, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

Odds never change this fast

It’s never strange to see betting odds adjust from the initial line that’s set by sportsbooks. It’s actually weird whenever they don’t change. But the spread of a game changing by a whole three points is absolutely wild.

But to make things even crazier, this line movement came on the day of the game which is unheard of. And to top it all off, the betting favorite changed from Georgia to Notre Dame, which isn’t too common either.

It’s impossible to say why the spread changed so much at the last second. No new information about the game was released in the last 24 hours that could have impacted the public’s perception of the game like an injury, so who knows what’s going on here. The only thing that has changed about this game is the fact that the game itself was delayed by a day, but that news impacts Georgia and Notre Dame equally so that likely wouldn’t impact the spread at all.

However, maybe Georgia becoming the underdog is a good thing. The Bulldogs were underdogs against Texas both times they played the Longhorns this season, and UGA was able to come out on top in those games. So this might just be the extra motivation Kirby Smart and Georgia need to defeat the Irish on Thursday.
