A few weeks ago Vegas released their opening spread for Georgia's week one game against Tennessee State. The Bulldogs were favored by 50.5 points, but considering the drastic difference in where both programs are at this really wasn't surprising.
College football fans across the country quickly noticed this spread as a chance to make some money though. Throughout Kirby Smart's tenure Georgia is 0-15-1 against the spread when they are favored by 38.5 points, and that is why this spread got a lot of attention.
Bettors must've picked up on this trend and started betting on Tennessee State to cover because in just a few short days this spread has fallen all the way to 46.5 points., according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

It isn't uncommon for a spread to change after Vegas releases their opening line. It is however very rare to see a spread move four points.
Vegas is typically pretty good at setting spreads that get equal action on both sides. That at the end of the day is their goal, but they apparently did a terrible job in this matchup.
The only explanation for this big change is that a vast majority of bettors were betting on Tennessee State to cover. Vegas then had no choice but to move the spread to account for this, so that is how Georgia is favored by much less now than they once were.
Kirby Smart and his team however likely don't care about this spread at all. If they did then they wouldn't be 0-15-1 when they're such massive favorites because Smart could leave his starters in and blow these teams out.
So maybe bettors were right to bet on Tennessee State when they had the chance.
Georgia, Kirby Smart aren't worried about Vegas spreads
Smart has never been a coach who cares what anyone else thinks. He's made that very clear about what fans think about his coaching staff this offseason and he definitely doesn't care how many points Vegas thinks they should win by.
If Smart wanted to beat Tennessee State by 70 points he could, but what's the point in that? Smart is building towards the future in this season and future seasons, so he will let the starters run the score up and then pull them out to keep them healthy. Then he'll put in Georgia's backups so they can get valuable experience.
So while it would be fun to see Georgia completely destroy teams there really isn't a need to. Smart has won three SEC titles and two National Championships while not purposefully blowing these teams out, so why change now?
Smart knows what he's doing, so if they only end up beating Tennessee State by 30 no one should worry.
