Just last week Georgia football received some great news on the recruiting trail for five-star safety Jireh Edwards. Seemingly out of nowhere, 247Sports logged a prediction for Edwards to commit to Georgia, which obviously was great news to see.
The Bulldogs have been aggressively pursuing Edwards and even brought him in on an official visit in April, so this prediction wasn't entirely shocking to see. But just one week later, it no longer appears Georgia is even in the running for Edwards anymore.
Adam Gorney with Rivals released an update on Edwards' recruitment, and listed a couple teams who are making a good run at him. However, it's impossible to ignore the fact that Georgia was not even mentioned in Gorney's update below.
"Alabama remains the top program on Edwards’ list and second is Oregon," Gorney shared via uga.rivals.com. "If the Ducks get even more involved in his recruitment things could get interesting with the five-star safety from Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances. Auburn made a significant move for Edwards during his visit over the weekend and he has a connection with a bunch of people in the building, but it would be a surprise if the Tigers overtook Alabama right now."
Georgia no longer in the running for 5-star Jireh Edwards
The prediction on 247Sports is still logged in Georgia's favor, but that seems like it doesn't even matter anymore. Gorney is about as respected as recruiting experts come, so it's unlikely that he just forgot to mention Georgia. So the most likely scenario is that UGA is no longer in the running for Edwards.
Maybe Georgia can get back in this race over the next month, but they're going to have to do that in a hurry because he has a commitment date set for July 5. That however is going to be difficult to do because Edwards has multiple visits to other programs scheduled throughout the month of June.
So out of all the recruits Georgia is after, this may be one that Georgia fans should mark as a loss so they can start devoting their attention elsewhere.
