Georgia WR commit Jamir Dean's new ranking proves lazy Kirby Smart narrative wrong

Jamie Dean's quick rise in the recruiting rankings is exactly what Georgia wants to see.

Georgia fans have been forced to ask Kirby Smart some uncomfortable questions recently. After failing to win a playoff game for three years in a row Georgia is now struggling to recruit a top 10 recruiting class this cycle.

That is not good enough at Georgia, and some fans are wondering of Smart has lost his touch. Recruiting rankings however are nowhere close to 100 percent accurate when it comes to how a player will perform in college.

Smart has turned many low level recruits into NFL players during his tenure and he has also identified recruits and earned their commitments long before the recruiting services even ranked them. That is exactly what just happened with wide receiver commit Jamir Dean who shot up the recruiting rankings on Monday and reminded everyone why they shouldn't be worried about Smart's recruiting tactics.

Kirby Smart's recruiting tactics should never be doubted again

As it stands today Georgia has the No. 14 class in the country. They also have 12 three-star commits out of the 18 players currently committed to them which is something no one is used to seeing.

This has led some Georgia fans and college football fans around the country to proclaim that Smart isn't the same recruiter that he once was. That however is not true and Dean is the latest example why.

Before Rivals' ranking update on Monday Dean was not ranked. He however skyrocketed up the rankings and is now the No. 111 overall player in the country. Recruiting sites hardly ever move players up this much, so Rivals clearly thinks they had it all wrong and he is actually one of the top players in the country.

So is Smart actually a bad recruiter? Or is he just really good at identifying talent that no one else can see? Considering how many recruits he has turned into NFL players it is far more likely that he is able to recognize talent that other people don't even know is there.

So instead of getting upset because of what random evaluators from 247Sports or Rivals think about their recruiting class, maybe fans should trust the guy that has brought four SEC titles and two National Championships to Georgia.

What does Jamir Dean's rise in the recruiting rankings mean for Georgia?

Dean's rise in the recruiting rankings really doesn't change their overall team ranking all that much. In fact, the Bulldogs are still a few spots outside of the top 10 which is ultimately where everyone wants Georgia's class to eventually be ranked.

But does it actually even matter where they are ranked? If Dean can go from unranked to almost cracking the top 100 then why can't other Georgia commits do that too? And if these other commits don't get ranked by the end of this recruiting cycle what is stopping them from becoming great players while in Athens?

Smart has proven himself time and time again. No program has been as good as Georgia during Smart's 10 years as head coach, so it's time to stop doubting him and it's time to start believing in him no matter what anyone else says.
