Let's make one thing clear. It is not uncommon for committed players to take visits to other teams. For Georgia, much will be made about five-star quarterback Jared Curtis going to watch his hometown Vanderbilt Commodores take on the Missouri Tigers this weekend. However, the 2026 commit is eager to come to Athens to be the next in line when it comes to quarterbacking greatness.
So while Curtis going down the road to Vanderbilt is not the end of the world, Kirby Smart cannot be thrilled to see three-star commit Gavin Honore take an official visit to Arizona State. Honore is a 2027 recruit and plays at national power Mater Dei over in Santa Ana, California. Although he has been committed to Georgia since June, Tempe is much closer to California than Athens is to his hometown.
Honore shared over X how pumped he is to take his visit to Arizona State this weekend vs. Houston.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Honore is the No. 38 player from California, the No. 54 wide receiver in his class and the No. 426 overall prospect in the 2027 class. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound wide receiver has 18 offers, including Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, Colorado, Louisville, Missouri, North Carolina, SMU, Syracuse, Tennessee, Texas, Texas Tech and West Virginia out of the Power Five.
It should be noted that Georgia legend Hines Ward is the wide receivers coach for the Sun Devils...
Kirby Smart should recognize Arizona State as a top candidate to flip WR
Look. Georgia is among the best schools that Honore has offers from. Of the 13 Power Four offers, programs like Arizona State, Louisville, Missouri, Tennessee, Texas and Texas Tech can even dream about making the College Football Playoff this year like Georgia almost certainly will. Of course, you have to wonder if local regional power USC will enter the fray at some point. For now, Georgia leads...
That being said, Arizona State is one of the few schools on here where it might make some sense for Honore to drop his three-star commitment to Georgia and pursue other options. No, this does not include the idea of Georgia effectively dropping his scholarship at some point, but the allure of Arizona State remains. Even if the Sun Devils do not make the playoff, they are not going away yet.
In the end, what is a well-thought-of recruit to do, say no to this awesome opportunity? Night games in Tempe are special. They will be playing a high-quality opponent in the Houston Cougars in Big 12 play. Plus, Tempe is not that far away from Santa Ana. Right now, Georgia is still very much in the lead to retain Honore, but Kirby Smart cannot like the fact that his commits will be looking at other places.
Until Honore de-commits, he will remain committed to the Dawgs out of traditional power Mater Dei.
