SEC commissioner Greg Sankey is debating making one of the biggest decisions in the history of college athletics. Sankey came out this week and said that multiple schools in the SEC have stated that they would love for the SEC to break away from the NCAA's oversight and govern themselves. He then took it one step further and said that he is seriously considering doing this.

If Sankey followed through on this threat it would change everything, especially in college football. The SEC is the best conference in the country, so much so that the NCAA might not be able to survive losing the conference. But if Sankey does decide to remove the SEC from the NCAA's oversight college football would never look the same again.

For Georgia though this change could result in them becoming an even greater powerhouse than they already are.

The SEC leaving the NCAA would be good news for Georgia

At this point it is impossible to say what would happen if the SEC did break away from the NCAA. Would they still compete in the College Football Playoff (which isn't an NCAA event)? Or would they compete amongst themselves and crown their own National Champion?

Regardless of which option Sankey chooses it would turn Georgia into an even bigger program.

Georgia is the king of the SEC right now. They have won three of the last four SEC Championships and have dominated nearly every program in the conference over the last few years. And as long as Kirby Smart is the head coach their reign is unlikely to ever end. So if the SEC crowned their own National Champion in this scenario the Bulldogs would add a lot more prestige to their prgoram almost immediately.

The SEC leaving the NCAA will probably never actually happen though, but if they did then Georgia would be one of the few programs who could greatly benefit from it.
