The Georgia Bulldogs season has been nothing but spectacular up to this point. Similarly to their championship run in 2017, Georgia avenged their only loss on the season to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. With so much success and a back-to-back SEC Championship crowns for Georgia, it is easy to overshadow one accomplishment that is extraordinary for the Bulldogs.

After Saturday, Gunner Stockton officially became the first Bulldog quarterback since Frank Sinkwich in 1942 to lead the team in rushing touchdowns.

Gunner Stockton makes history for Bulldogs

Stockton's ability to run the football has been a huge benefactor for the Bulldogs this season. Stockton is third on the team in rushing yards with 442. However, the most impressive figure is his rushing touchdowns. Stockton has eight rushing touchdowns on the season which is more than Chauncey Bowens and Nate Frazier who both have six.

The last time Georgia has seen this type of threat was with Sinkwich. In that season, Sinkwich ran for 16 touchdowns and won the Heisman trophy. Georgia also went 11-1 that season and claimed their first National Championship trophy. It is also important to note that Sinkwich played a role in that offense like a tailback, not even a true quarterback. The fact that Sinkwich ran significantly more as a running back makes Stockton's season that much more historic.

Not only has Stockton delivered Georgia back-to-back SEC Championships, but he has broken records that have stood for over 80 years. If anybody has proven that it is well worth the wait to learn behind star quarterbacks and play for a prestigious program, it is Stockton. With the playoff looming and Georgia securing a first-round bye, Stockton and the Bulldogs look to further his legacy in Athens even more.
