When it comes to Georgia football royalty, Stetson Bennett sits at the top of the list that every Bulldog aspires to reach. That is especially the case for quarterbacks as anyone who comes to Georgia would love nothing more than to have the career that Bennett had.
Bennett found so much success at Georgia that includes winning two national titles, an SEC championship and making the Heisman Trophy ceremony. Those accolades will be hard for anyone to match let alone surpass, but Gunner Stockton just accomplished something even Bennett couldn’t do during their win over Alabama on Saturday.

Gunner Stockton is catching up to Stetson Bennett’s legacy
Saturday marked the second SEC Championship that Stockton has won at Georgia. Sure he wasn’t the starter in last year’s victory over Texas, but he led the second half comeback after Carson Beck was injured so he deserves as much credit for that win as anyone else.
While Stockton clearly has work to do to catch up to Bennett’s impressive resume, he did take a step in the right direction by winning his second SEC title. Bennett was only able to win one SEC championship while at Georgia, so when comparing their resumes the nod goes to Stockton in this instance.
Stockton was also able to bring home the MVP award as well to match Bennett’s MVP he won in the 2022 SEC championship game as well.
If Stockton is ever going to catch up to or surpass Bennett’s legacy he is going to have to win at least one national title. The good news is Georgia is trending in the right direction and have as good of a chance as anyone to win it all this season.
If Stockton is able to lead Georgia to a national title and return for one more season then this debate might actually have some legs to it. And based on how impressive Bennett’s career was it is wild that Stockton even has a chance to enter the same realm as him.
