Gunner Stockton still exists and deserves to be on this list.

Gunner Stockton had a much better season last year than anyone expected. No one knew what to expect from him and many actually thought he was going to be a bad quarterback, but he led Georgia to a 12-2 record and SEC Championship which no one outside of Athens thought was possible.

Stockton now returns as a second year starter with the goal of leading Georgia to a National Championship. He is more than capable of doing that considering he is one of the best quarterbacks in the country, but CBS Sports’ Danny Kanell completely disagrees with that sentiment.

More fuel has been added to Gunner Stockton’s fire

Kanell released his top 10 returning quarterbacks for the 2026 season, and Stockton was nowhere to be found. Even the biggest Georgia homers wouldn’t go as far as to say that Stockton deserves to be the No. 1 quarterback on any list, but to not crack the top 10 is a bit ridiculous.

Just take a look at who is No. 1 on this list. Texas quarterback Arch Manning sits at the top of this list and no one should deny that he deserves to be on this list, but does he deserve to be No. 1? That is definitely up for debate considering Stockton had a better year individually and as a team last year.

But if Manning is someone’s No. 1 then Stockton should at least crack that person’s top 10.

Stockton however is the last person that would care about any of this. He is focused on not just making himself better but the entire team around him better, and when it comes time to lace it up this fall he will let his play do the talking.

But anyone who watched Georgia play last year knows Stockton is legit and deserves more respect than this.
