Georgia football’s pursuit of their third National Championship under Kirby Smart began on Tuesday. The Bulldogs opened up spring practice on Tuesday, and a few players along with Kirby Smart met with the media to discuss expectations heading into spring.

This is the first opportunity for the team to make a lot of headlines since their season came to an end. That’s the case for everyone other than Gunner Stockton who went viral when he met President Donal Trump earlier this offseason. On Tuesday Stockton was asked about this interaction and he said all the right things in his response.

“It was just a chance to meet the president. I think me personally, I don’t know your stance,” Stockton said via x.com. “But I’d meet any president when I got the chance to. So that was definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity, and that was pretty neat.”

Gunner Stockton explained why he met Donald Trump

Anything to do with politics will be viewed under a microscope nowadays. That was the case when Stockton met Donald Trump earlier this offseason as some Georgia fans were a little upset that he did that. Stockton however explained that he would jump at the opportunity to meet any president, so there really isn’t news worth discussing when it comes to that interaction anymore.

That is best case scenario for him because now he can put all of his attention on continuing to get better this offseason.

Stockton was great last season, but he is going to need to be even better if Georgia is going to win a national championship this year. Smart knows this, and that is why he deliberately called him out during his press conference on Tuesday.

The last thing Stockton needs was an off the field story impacting his offseason, so it’s great to see this story put to bed so he can devote all of his attention on getting better now.
