Georgia's loss to Ole Miss in the College Football Playoff is still fresh. That loss occurred two and a half months ago, but until next season begins that defeat will live rent free in everyone's head.
This includes Gunner Stockton whose recent comments show that this defeat is still emotionally scarring him today.
“It definitely left a bad taste,” Stockton said via dawgnation.com. "And just try not to let that happen and do our best to make it not happen.”
Gunner Stockton's emotional damage will help him get even better
If Stockton was already over this loss then that would be really concerning. A quarterback at Georgia needs to love winning more than anything else, so if he was already past this loss then that would be a reason for fans to worry.
Stockton however isn't letting this loss get to him too much. Sure it stings, but it should. That defeat ended Georgia's season much earlier than anyone wanted, so that loss should continue to motivate him all offseason.
But Stockton has turned the page and is getting ready for the season ahead. That began on Tuesday when Georgia held their first practice of the spring, and it immediately became clear what expectations were being placed on him.
Kirby Smart spoke with the media during Georgia's first practice, and he set the stage for what he expects from Stockton. He needs Stockton to become more efficient with his deep ball and be an even better leader than he already is. If Stockton can do these things then Smart knows they will be good enough to win a National Championship, but it all begins this spring as Stockton works on his game day by day.
But the fact that he still hasn't moved past the loss to Ole Miss should help him improve even more than if they would've won that game.
