Gunner Stockton just became a real Heisman contender after Week 1

The Heisman Trophy was an afterthought for Gunner Stockton entering the 2025 season, but his chances of winning the award are very real after his dominant week one performance.

Gunner Stockton answered the bell during Georgia's week one demolition of Marshall. Stockton finished the game completing 14 of 24 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran the ball for an additional 73 yards and two more touchdowns as well. But most importantly, Stockton did not turn the ball over which is something Georgia's previous quarterback did far too much last season.

While it may seem a little early to start talking about the Heisman Trophy race, it's hard to not bring it up after this stellar performance from Stockton. And FanDuel Sportsbook agrees as they now give Stockton the fourth best odds to win the Heisman Trophy following week one.

Gunner Stockton's Heisman Trophy odds see meteoric rise

Stockton had the 16th best odds to win the Heisman entering the 2025 season. Those were very good odds for someone who was as unproven as Stockton is, but he had a lot to prove before he would be taken seriously as a true Heisman candidate. But it now appears that he has shown enough to be a serious contender because FanDuel now gives Stockton the fourth best odds to win the award.

The only three players with better odds are all quarterbacks and include LSU's Garrett Nussmeier, Oklahoma's LaNorris Sellers and Miami's Carson Beck.

Stockton has another chance to pad his stats this weekend as FCS Austin Peay heads to Athens for Georgia's second game of the season. If Stockton is going to continue to compete for this award he is going to need another big performance when he has an easy opponent in front of him.

In order to win this award though he will need to be at his best when Georgia's up against the best opponents on their schedule, so the soonest opportunity for Stockton to make a statement in the Heisman race will be when Georgia travels to Tennessee for their week three showdown.
