Gunner Stockton enters the 2025 season in a very precarious position. Expectations are extremely high for Georgia football this season, like they are every year, but there aren’t many college football fans outside of Athens that have much faith in him.
So while everyone waits to see how Stockton does this season, it’s worth noting that there is one big reason why Georgia fans should be confident in him, and that’s because of his Heisman Trophy odds.
Gunner Stockton’s Heisman odds should give Georgia some confidence
Stockton currently has the 16th best odds in the country to win the Heisman Trophy this season. That’s not good enough for him to be considered a favorite to win the award, but he’s far from a long shot.
Many eventual Heisman Trophy winners have begun the season with worse odds than this, and that gets taken to another level when looking at Heisman finalists who made it to the ceremony. Just look at last season with Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty who finished second in Hesiman voting. No one even knew who he was entering the season, yet a large portion of college football fans believed he should have won the award.
So even though there are concerns with having a new starting quarterback, Stockton has the weapons around him to be able to find a lot of success. Georgia has a brand new wide receiver room that features two top 10 receivers out of the transfer portal that will help Stockton excel. On top of that, Georgia’s running game should be improved as well which will make life easier on Stockton in the passing game.
So while Georgia fans may not actually believe Stockton can win the Heisman, the fact that his odds are this high should be very encouraging. Because at the end of the day who cares if anyone wins an individual award or not as long as Georgia continues to be the best team in the SEC.
